Albert Einstein once said, “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
Einstein, considered by many to be the greatest mind of the 20th century, was known for mulling over his questions until falling into a semi-trance. In these states of deep contemplation, he made fascinating discoveries, then spent countless hours working back out of the maze to make his discoveries translatable to others.
The trick to sustainable success in any arena is not, as many believe, to be the smartest or most educated person in the room, or to be born into wealth and opportunity. Rather, the trick is to become so focused on the goal and so determined not to give up that all distractions fade into the background, and the answers rise to the top.
If you would like to see more success in your endeavors, here are 4 simple tips to help you get and stay focused so you can achieve your goals:
Studies have shown that humans get overwhelmed and become less productive when focusing on too many things at once. The concept of multitasking is a misnomer as we can only effectively focus on one thing at a time. Therefore, pick one small aspect of whatever you’re doing and give it your full attention.
Oftentimes, we don’t give something the necessary attention because we feel we cannot disengage from all the other demands in our lives. Give yourself permission to let everything else go for a while. De-prioritize to re-prioritize, and be okay with the fact that in order to say ‘Yes’ to what you want, you must say ‘No’ to something else.
For example, when I was recently learning German, I set a goal to pass the Goethe Institute’s exam at the end of the course. It was a very intensive course with lots of homework every day for 20 weeks (2 x 10 weeks). Of course, I had to take care of all the usual everyday activities too, cooking, looking after the children, taking them to their after-school classes and household chores.
To be able to achieve my goal, I had to study every night since it was the only available time for me. I had to re-prioritize every other activity, e.g. cooking simpler meals (sometimes not as healthy as I would’ve wanted it to be), working on my homework at the playground instead of chatting with other mothers. Instead of yoga and Pilates, which are my favorite exercises, I had to make do with the 2 x 20 minutes bike ride to and fro the course. In the evening instead of chilling with my partner, I was studying for the next day. I had to say ‘No’ to many things. The house was messier than usual. But my exam result was 97% 🙂
With deadlines looming, it’s easy to shortchange yourself on the amount of time actually needed for excellence. Ask for more time if you need it. OR, refer to tip number 2 to create more space in your life. Progress takes persistence and persistence takes time.
I had really not much time so I tried everything I could to either make more time (I maxed that out) or increase my learning speed. As you may have noticed from my blog posts, I’m very interested in our brilliant brain’s capacity and whether we can change it.
OK, so how could I increase my brainpower and be able to learn faster or more effectively?
I’m an avid fan of Marisa Peer as you can see from these earlier blog posts. She is a world-renowned hypnotherapist and she has helped thousands of people (including many celebrities) to overcome personal or health issues.
I was wondering, could I use hypnosis to speed up my learning?
When you allow yourself to be hypnotized, the so-called “trance-like state” you enter is simply a state of focused attention. Your mind is relaxed, which makes it easier for you to accept suggestions and imagine possibilities. Do you remember what I said about Einstein and the trance-like state in which he solved his problems and made his amazing discoveries?
I’ve found out that hypnosis can be also used to sharpen your thinking, develop photographic memory, and speed up your learning.
During hypnotherapy, the therapist helps you achieve this daydream-like state on purpose. You shut out all external stimuli and direct your attention to a single thought, helping fire up your imagination and switch off your logical conscious mind. And that’s when you are most susceptible to suggestions.
These days you can find a qualified hypnotherapist in most cities, or you might prefer to tackle the problem in the comfort of your own home using hypnosis audio MP3s.
This is what I did. I discovered Hypnosis Live. It is a website with over 200 self-hypnosis downloadable MP3s created by qualified hypnosis professionals. There is a wide range of topics, including Photographic Memory, Faster Learning, Instant Self-confidence, Exercise Motivator, Overcome Insomnia, Stop smoking, Think yourself thin, Wealth attraction, Public speaking power and Achieve your goals, just to mention a few.
Have a look at yourself: Hypnosis Live.
First I was skeptical. Some of the titles, such as Golf Success and Supercharge your singing, looked a bit funny. Can you really improve your singing or golf skills by sitting and listening to audio? That is silly. You just need to practice, right?
It turns out you can though. But not how you imagine it, as Fairy Godmother magics these skills inside you through your ears and suddenly you are able to sing much better. It actually changes the way you think (about yourself) and opens up your brain to reach its untapped potentials.
I thought I would give it a go. You know, I like experimenting 🙂 First I listened to a free version, which you can get here.
You can choose one gift out of 7 MP3s (Eliminate Stress, Achieve your Goals, Attitude of Gratitude, Law of Attraction, Find Your Life Purpose, Positive Thinking and Attitude of Gratitude) and try it out yourself.
First time I chose Visualization Success as I firmly believe in the power of visualization, and wanted to improve my technique. To my surprise I really enjoyed it!
Every Hypnosis Live audio has been recorded by Master NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) expert Julia-Ann Amos. I immediately fell in love with her calming and pleasant voice and rational reasoning. After all, I’m a researcher, I have a curious, but a very analytical mind. I can cope with a little bit of woo-woo, but not too much. But there is no woo-woo in these recordings whatsoever.
so it’s just like having a conversation with a very wise, good friend. The difference is that you’re having the conversation in your head with Julia-Ann Amos. I was actually looking forward to hearing her voice every day (or whenever I had time to listen to the audios).
She says in one of the recordings: “It’s important that you understand that this is not going to change your thinking, it’s going to give you the ability to think in a different way by choice.”
People fear the idea of hypnosis more than hypnosis itself because they simply don’t really understand what it is. They wonder if they’ll go into a trance from which they won’t be able to wake up, or if the hypnotherapist will implant some wicked command in their mind as part of an evil scheme. But neither of these things could ever happen to anyone. That’s Hollywood bunkum and is literally impossible.
When you allow yourself to be hypnotized, the so-called “trance-like state” you enter is simply a state of focused attention. Your mind is relaxed, which makes it easier for you to accept suggestions and imagine possibilities. But you have to want to be hypnotized; you have to want to make changes in your life, or there isn’t a person on earth who can force you.
Don’t let the idea of hypnosis keep you from experiencing it. In fact, you’ve already experienced it without even realizing it! If you’ve ever found yourself daydreaming while reading a book or watching a movie, that’s exactly what hypnosis is like. You lose yourself in what you’re doing, and your attention is focused entirely on the act you’re performing to the exclusion of everything else.
Definitely! My exam results were between 93 % and 100%. If you’ve ever done a Goethe language exam, you know it is not easy. And I’m not good at languages. It took me a loooong time to learn English too and as you can see from my blog posts it is far from perfect 🙂
I bought the Sharp Mind Hypnosis Bundle containing 4 MP3s:
Sharper Thinking
Ultra-Fast Learning
Photographic Memory Power
Activate Your Genius IQ
I’ve also bought the Learn a Language MP3.
I listened to one of them whenever I had time, mainly in the evening in bed before going to sleep. Quite often I fell asleep during the self-hypnosis. It’s ok though as our unconscious mind can still process the heard information even when we sleep.
I can reassure you that these self-hypnosis audios are completely harmless, at least I didn’t notice any negative effects. On the contrary, I was the best in the language course group even though I was the oldest (43) and had the least amount of time to study. I can tell you, these audios really worked for me. Of course, it doesn’t mean that it will definitely work for you as well.
People who approach the experience of hypnosis with an open mind respond better than those who are skeptical. According to the available statistics, only 10 % of adults are difficult to hypnotize. Positive thinkers, children, and people with a vivid imagination are all likely to be able to be hypnotized.
Each self-hypnosis program is about 40-45 minutes long and the size is about 60 MB. The suggested retail price is $22.95.
But you can save money on these programs in many ways.
Every day Hypnosis Live offers a different program for a very low price of $4.95 or $6.
Many programs are discounted by $5. If you would like to try more than one self-hypnosis downloads, Bundles are a very good option to buy them cheaper. As I told you I bought the Sharp Mind Hypnosis Bundle.
You can also save 10% by subscribing to the Hypnosis Live newsletter. They also send links for free downloads regularly.
They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, meaning if you don’t get the desired outcome or you just don’t like the audio, then Hypnosis Live offers a no questions asked 14-day full refund policy.
I would say, if there’s an issue in your life you need to resolve, mental or physical, then maybe it’s time you thought about hypnosis as a possible solution. When you think of the potential for hypnosis to help manage pain, break bad habits, and improve almost any aspect of your life, you may want to at least give it a try.
As I said before, you can try it completely free. You can either use the previous link to chose from those 7 downloads I mentioned before, or this link: Hypnosis Live Gift. Here you can choose from 6 downloads (Feel Happy Now, Activate your Genius, Wealth Attraction, Exercise Motivator, Law of attraction and Eliminate Stress), plus you can download a copy of “The 18 Rules of Happiness” by best-selling author, Karl Moore. All for FREE!
After trying out hypnosis you might fall in love with it so much that you want to use it to help others. In this case, the iNLP Center is the perfect place to get trained to become a Certified Hypnosis Practitioner or Certified Hypnotherapist.
You don’t have to be an Einstein to let your genius shine through. Brilliance belongs to everyone…you just have to drill deep to get to the gold.
