My personal experience with various vegan diets - Low-carb or low-fat?

Here I share with you my personal experience with various vegan diets. Please read my conclusions at the end of the post too. OK, let's see my few years-long experiments with testing various popular vegan diets. I am a researcher by training, I like to do experiments, even on myself. So I tried some approaches to see how my body reacts to certain changes in my diet. What I found after these experiments is that it's better to simply listen to my body than to follow diets. Our bodies know what is best for them and it can be completely different for you and me. Also, don't be surprised if you find your food preferences change as you age or go through different life stages (puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause).

Important note:

These weight gains and losses are 2-3 kilos, not much really. The time frame of the described personal experience with these vegan diets is about 15 years, so I don't often change my diet significantly. The aim was just to experiment and find a way of eating I enjoy the most and can sustain in the long term, while I'm healthy, happy, slim, have enough energy and my skin looks good. Life works similarly. There are ups and there are most certainly downs. Sometimes you might feel as though you just want to jump off the seesaw and lay on the ground for a little while to just gain your equilibrium back.

You can do it in your bed before you get up in the morning or before going to sleep at night. You can do it while having a relaxing soak in a nice hot bath. It was also an "emergency situation" when I first turned to meditation. I was extremely stressed and overwhelmed trying to juggle work commitments and motherhood, up to the point when I started to have panic attacks out of nowhere. I was desperately trying to find a solution to relieve stress. As working less, walking in nature, self-care and other recommended approaches were not feasible at that moment, I figured I could meditate for a few minutes every night before I fall asleep and see how it goes. And it worked, I felt fresher, happier, more focused, and more energetic than usual. I was able to deal with stressful situations much better. Then it became an almost daily practice.

During the first three months of this year, I was really motivated to eat healthily and exercised about 6 times a week. Then came the 2 weeks long Easter holiday. We traveled a lot and spent 10 days at my parents' house, where we had way too much delicious and not-so-healthy food. Apart from the occasional walks, I did not exercise at all. When we came home I didn't have any desire to do any sport whatsoever. I sometimes walked for an hour or so but very rarely. I also had my birthday the week after we came home, so I had a gorgeous cake and just ate too much in general. The result: I gained about 2-3 kilos (about 4-6 pounds) during the last 5 weeks. I don't measure myself but my clothes are very tight. I started to research how to motivate myself to get back to eating healthily and exercise regularly.
